Canon announces today the launch of a new addition to the company’s line-up of interchangeable EF lenses for use with Canon EOS-series SLR cameras: the EF200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x. The groundbreaking L (luxury)-series lens, the world’s first1 super-telephoto zoom lens to incorporate an internal extender, delivers enhanced convenience and exceptional imaging performance on par with large-diameter super-telephoto prime lenses. Covering a wide zoom range from 200–560 mm, the new lens supports the advanced needs of professional photographers and contributes to expanding the possibilities in imaging expression.

Featuring a built-in 1.4x extender that employs eight lens elements in four groups, the new Canon EF200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x enables users to instantly change the lens’s zoom range from 200–400 mm to 280–560 mm with the single flip of a switch.2 In addition, the super-telephoto zoom lens realises high image quality even when the extender is in use.3 Offering superior convenience, the model is particularly useful for capturing sports, nature and other types of photography involving weight and shooting-space restrictions that limit the amount of equipment that can be brought to a location, or in situations where users are unable to get close to a subject.

Through a simple one-touch operation, the zoom range of the EF200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x can be extended without having to switch lenses, eliminating the risk of dust or moisture entering the lens or camera when changing lenses. In addition, with the attachment of an external 1.4x extender (sold separately), users can realise image capture up to a maximum focal length of 784 mm and auto-focusing at a maximum aperture of f/8.4

What’s new in this firmware:

  1. Uncompressed HDMI output is now enabled.
  2. Enables the center AF point to autofocus when the camera is used with Canon EF lens/extender combinations whose combined maximum aperture is f/8.
  3. Improves the speed of the camera’s acquisition of focus when using a Canon Speedlite’s AF-assist beam.
  4. Fixes a phenomenon in which the LCD monitor may freeze and display Err 70 or Err 80 when a still photo is taken during Live View or in movie shooting mode.
  5. Fixes a phenomenon that may occur when the continuous shooting priority setting is enabled for multiple exposures, such that, after the sixth image is taken, there is a slight pause before the remainder of the sequence is completed.
  6. Fixes a phenomenon in which the viewfinder display shows incorrect information during AEB shooting.
  7. Communication with the WFT-E7 Wireless File Transmitter has been improved.
  8. When images have been successfully transferred with the WFT-E7 Wireless File Transmitter through the FTP protocol, an “O” will be displayed. When images have not been successfully transferred with the WFT-E7 Wireless File Transmitter through the FTP protocol, an “X” will be displayed.
  9. Fixes a phenomenon in which the camera may not function properly when an Eye-Fi card is used.
  10. Fixes a phenomenon in which the focal length value listed in the Exif information is not displayed correctly for images shot with the EF 24-70mm F4L IS USM lens.
  11. Fixes a phenomenon in which the lens firmware cannot be updated properly.
  12. Corrects errors in the Arabic language menu.
  13. Fixes a phenomenon in which the camera changes the AF microadjustment value to -8.
  14. Fixes a phenomenon in which the on-screen guidance cannot be fully displayed when setting
the maximum limit value for the “Setting the ISO Speed Range for Auto ISO” option.

The Canon EF 24-70 F4 IS

Compact, lightweight and dynamic with Canon’s L-series optical performance, the new EF 24–70mm f/4L IS USM lens is perfect
for full-frame photography. Lightweight it weighs in at 205gram lighter than its 2.8 big brother, compact its some 2cm shorter than its big brother.

The Canon EF 24-70mm f/4 L IS USM Lens receives Canon’s 4-stop Hybrid Image Stabilization feature. If panning is detected, the 24-70 f/4 IS switches off stabilization in one direction. With an approaching-1:1 macro reproduction ratio, this lens will make good use of the HIS technology. “Hybrid IS detects both angular and shift movements when in macro mode.”

We expect it to be available sometime in December no costing yet

Now weve had a play with the Canon EOS 1DX we can safely say Canon is on a winner. The improvement in the focus engine are great and its low light performance ( High ISO ) is very impressive.

We are in the process of putting all the cameras through a comparison shoot we will have the result within the next few weeks.

Weve been looking at way to make it easy for you to get into the EOS 1DX, through finance we get you into one of these for as little as $65.00 per week. Conditions apply talk to one of our staff about the details.

Heres some comments from our good friend Rick Syme about his Canon EOS1DX

The first and most obvious improvement between the 1Dx and previous models is the auto focusing. Using the AF button (thumb) in conjunction with ‘servo focus’, subjects moving erratically towards or away from the camera are caught in perfect focus in pretty well every frame. The 1Dx’s auto focusing technology seems very smooth, fast and sure footed. Secondly, the reduction in high ISO sensor noise is very good. The sensor noise reduction is obvious but what may not be so obvious at first is the seemingly different type of noise : it ‘seems’ more film like and less objectionable. Thirdly, the 1Dx has a large buffer which is great when shooting hi-speed RAWS. Fourthly, the actual sensor (image) quality appears to be very good (in the limited conditions I’ve worked in so far). Finally, the camera build quality is superb and it’s ergonomics are excellent!

Stay tuned for your full review.

Canon announced today the new Compact System Camera — the EOS M — EOS quality that is as easy to use as it is to carry.

The EOS M has been developed alongside the new EOS 650D digital SLR camera and shares many components, including the 18 megapixel APS-C sensor with on-chip phase detection AF and the DiG!C 5 image processor. The removal of the mirrorbox assembly and viewfinder allows the camera to be around 50% lighter and significantly smaller while enabling the same high level of image quality.

Quality extends to renowned EOS performance features including outstanding low-light shooting with an ISO range of 100 —12800 expandable to 25600 (H) and 4.3 frame-per-second high-speed burst shooting (One Shot AF).

The EOS M places control at your fingertips with a capacitive Touch Screen 3.0-inch Clear View II LCD monitor (approximately 1.04 million dots) with smudge-resistant coating. Multi-touch operation enables Touch Focus and Touch Shutter operation as well as familiar reviewing gestures such as “pinch-to-zoom” and “swiping” to scroll between pictures. Moreover, the Feature Guide provides simple on-screen explanations of features as they are selected.

Along with the ability to use the full line of Canon EF and EF-S lenses through the optional Mount Adapter EF-EOS M.
