Photo Fashion 2008

Just consider two questions :

* Have you ever wanted to witness first hand a day in the life of a “Top Class” Photographic Studio as they tackle that impossible assignment?

and……

* Do you enjoy High Fashion and the thrill and excitement of a Catwalk Fashion Parade?

If the answer to either of these questions is yes then mark down 6.00pm Wednesday the 9th April 2008 in your diary.

Team Digital in conjunction with the High St. Fashion Collective is presenting a two-part program at the Fremantle Town Hall as part of the Foto Freo Festival of Photography. This event is designed to showcase cutting edge photography, image production technology and the impressive talents of Fremantle’s leading Fashion Designers.

The first half of the program will be a live play and will star award-winning photographer Simon Westlake ably supported by talented Photographer Chantel Concei and the image processing skills of Jade Foo. Our over stressed photographic team will be seriously challenged as they strive to meet an unrealistic deadline. “A full scale fashion shoot and the production of six one metre high Photographic prints, all mounted and hanging in the windows of Fremantle’s leading Fashion Houses by 10.00am the next day” Surely an impossible task.

Whilst our photographic team moves from image capture to the print production phase, “BodyForce” West End Academy’s Modelling Group will take to the catwalk to present the latest in fashion creations from the High Street Fashion Collective.

On display will be original garment designs from “Love in Tokyo”, “Ashe”, “Hustle” and “Mabu” and some unique jewellery designs from “kartique” and “Loop”.

As the curtain falls and the excitement subsides we will progress to the central Atrium of the Town Hall to mingle with friends and industry colleagues and to sample some of Western Australia’s renowned wine and cheeses.

Phase One P25+ Trial

No one denies the quality and capability of the current generation of Digital SLR’s but as most professional photographers know there is another level.

The virtues of the Phase One P25+ have been sung loud & clear since their release with the keenest advocates being photographers requiring the ultimate in image integrity and resolution. The only way to truly appreciate the reality of the Phase One though is to try it in a true working situation. Between now and the end of April we are offering account customers the opportunity to use the P25+ for up to half a day free of charge.

Contact either Peter, Trevor or Pat on 93283377 to book your free session.

Light Fantastic A Big Success

The third annual Light Fantastic event held at the Fremantle Town Hall on the 23rd & 24th February was by all measure a resounding success. Congratulations to Dale Neill and Nick Melidonis for a great weekend of photographic appreciation and learning. Thanks also to Peter, Trevor and Jenny from Team Digital for being on hand to demonstrate some of the latest in imaging technology and to David Johnson for his knowledgeable presentation on backup and file security.

MacBook Air

The slickest laptop in town. Apple have released the MacBook Air, so for those who want an ultra-portable with a full 13.3" Display nothing could be better.

Apple claim their new MacBook Air to be 'the worlds thinnest notebook." With a maximum width of 1.94cm tapering down to a an amazing 0.4cm at the edge the MacBook Air certainly has the 'edge' in style.

If you need a Notebook to crunch photoshop or convert raw images in the field the Air is probably not for you, but if you want a very stylish laptop to do your regular office work it just might be your answer.

To see, touch and hold a MacBook Air for yourself just drop in to the Team Digital showroom in Lord Street and see why the MacBook Air is getting so much air-time.

Try An Eizo For A Week

OK we admit it. Here at Team Digital we are in love with Eizo Monitors. In our defence though we do feel that our affection is justified. Whenever we feed our Eizo’s they reward us with consistent images across the full screen. High light and low light details are faithfully presented and image colour and density are accurately replicated at output.

To enable others to better understand our love affair with Eizo we are offering a free one week trial in your studio of any of the monitors stocked by Team Digital. After a week we will come and take it back, unless of course you simply can’t bear to part with it in which case we will send you an invoice.

Sony’s ‘Flash’ New Camera

Sony have bundled professional quality hardware and optics into what appears at first glance to be a handy cam but the PMW EX1 is no handy cam. The EX1 is born of the same stock as Sony’s broadcast cameras; it is the first handy cam style camera to be made in the same factory as Sony’s HDCAM & XDCAM models.

The EX1 is set to be the first in a long line of Sony tapeless cameras, recording to SxS PRO flash memory cards. These cards use a PCI Express interface achieving transfer speeds of up to 800Mbps and can be inserted directly into most new MAC and PC laptops via the Express Card Slot. Currently available in up to 16GB, of which the EX1 has room for two, with the capability to store over a hour of full HD vision and sound. Workflow with SxS is the art of simplicity, with all major NLE Manufacturers (Apple, Adobe, Edius & Avid) adopting compatibility. The SxS cards however are just the beginning of Sony’s hardware goodies on this camera.

Sony’s newly developed Exmor CMOS censors provide reduced noise, heat and power consumption all the while the 3 _ inch 2.2 mega pixel, 1920 x 1080 mega pixel sensors are capably capturing full 1920 X 1080 HD progressive and interlaced switchable signals.

Had Sony decided to use a Carl Zeiss video lens for this body, we may have seen another capable capturing device, with the photographic quality of a Pepsi bottle. This time Sony has excelled and their choice to put a Fujinon lens on this camera was an excellent one.

The 14X ‘fixed’ Fujinon lens has two seriously good features: the iris ring and manual focus! But the HVX and the XLH1 have those I hear you cry! Not like this they don’t. Firstly, unlike Canon and Panasonics servo controlled focus rings, the Fujinon lens actually has stop points. Winding your focus ring endlessly is a thing of the past, at last we can consider more serious focusing applications, pulling focus is finally something available on a non-broadcast camera. While this lens still has a servo to control it’s AF mode, a simple slide of a ring on the barrel allows the operator to shift from AF to the full MF mode.

Secondly, the little aperture wheel on the side of the camera has gone, replaced with a real aperture ring with real markings, just like the big boys use! Couple that with the zoom ring and you have yourself a broadcast style lens on a camera that is under $10,000.

With Canon’s imminent move into Solid State video cameras, one can only assume that the number of these types of cameras on the market is going to increase substantially. Having this sort of image quality and control, for this sort of price, is slowly but surely bridging the gap between what is considered professional and what is not.
