"Technology to capture, create, and communicate." Welcome to the March 2009 Team Digital Newsletter. Highlights from this issue include: Nikon D3x Launch - A Hit with Perth Photographers
About 40 photographers attended the recent launch of Nikon’s latest flagship camera the D3x. Julie Kimpton Nikon’s Professional Products Manager was in town for the launch and soon dispelled any thoughts that the D3x was an up-specked D3.
“It is not a replacement or an upgrade but a new addition to the range,” insisted Julie, an assertion that soon became obvious as the D3x was put through its paces. Well known Bunbury professional photographer and long time Nikon convert Steve Lloyd Smith kindly loaned us his talents for the night using the Team Digital studio to great effect.
Competing for attention with Steve and the new Nikon was our lovely model Chloe and a simply gorgeous Triumph motorcycle courtesy of Lloyd Chapman Motor Cycles. The evening concluded with a shoot-out between the D3x and the D3 with a very clear points decision going to the new boy on the block. Some wine and cheese and what more could you ask. Thanks to everyone who attended and helped to make the night a success.
Elinchrom 500 RI – Tomorrow’s Features At Yesterday’s Prices The now superseded Elinchrom 400 FX two head flash kit sold for around $2,000 including GST. For around $2,300 you can now purchase the latest BX500Ri two head kit which offers not only more power but a level of sophistication more akin to the Elinchrom RX600 kit, an acknowledged benchmark in studio flash.
We know it’s a somewhat overused saying but we think that the term “more bang for your buck” must have been coined especially for the new Elinchrom BX 500 flash series, because that’s exactly what it delivers.
Has There Ever Been A Better Time To Buy Phase One?For a limited period the Australian dealer network backed by the Phase One factory in Denmark is offering a unique opportunity to professional photographers looking to take the next step in high-resolution image capture.
In the case of offer one the savings amount to in excess of $3,500 over the best bundle price. In the case of offer two, depending on the lenses chosen, the savings could be in excess of $12,000. With leasing rates at historical lows and the special 30% investment allowance currently on offer, now might just be the right time to take the plunge. Explore the possibilities further with one of our expert team members. $500 For Any Old Photographic BombIt might be in the bottom draw, it might be in the hall cupboard or perish the thought it might be out the back in the garden shed, but wherever it is hiding that old camera you were about to throw out has just become worth $500. For the month of March only, Team Digital are offering $500 on any old working camera as a trade in on a Canon 1D Mark111 or IDS MK111. Team Digital is committed to meeting the market on the pricing of all Canon professional bodies and lenses so come in and negotiate a great deal and we will give you an extra $500 for your old bomb. Colormunki – Profiling Made SimpleColomunki is an all-in-one profiling device for monitors and printers that has been designed for professionals and enthusiasts that need a more simplified approach to colour management. It is by far the simplest profiling system we have used with easy to follow editing procedures.
But the all-in-one concept doesn’t stop there. Colormunki will give you fast and accurate projector profiles and you can share your images with confidence using DigitalPouch, a self-executable application that checks for “Viewsafe” conditions on the receiver side. All this might sound expensive but in our view it isn’t. Contact one of the sales team who will be happy to demo Colomunki and give you our best deal. Canon User Group (CUG) Kicks Off In MarchTeam Digital and Canon have been in discussions for some time about the merits of forming a Canon User Group here in Perth. We are pleased to announce that this is about to become a reality with our first event to kick off in March 2009. The overriding objective of CUG is to form a community of Canon users in WA who would benefit from closer links with Canon and from association with one another. The aim would be to provide a range of benefits that would help members to gain added benefit and enjoyment from their investment in Canon Photographic equipment. These benefits could take many forms but might typically include some of the following:
Team Digital’s role in CUG would be that of facilitator in WA and we would act as a link between the group and Canon. Membership would be free as would most of the events being planned. On occasions there may be a nominal charge where abnormal expenditure is incurred or in the case of more extensive activities. The first two events have been scheduled as follows.
Please call 9328 3377 for more information regarding these activities or to sign up for CUG membership. ADOBE CS4 Upgrades - Beat the Price Rise!

New Team Digital Video Demo StockFollowing our appointment as a Sony Broadcast Reseller, Team Digital has expanded its demonstration stock to include some of the latest in their range of Professional HDV cameras. HVR-V1P For documentary, low budget cinema and TV, the V1P produces exceptional quality HDV images in a compact body, at a very reasonable price. Sony’s fixed lens V1P expanded Sony’s already impressive line up of compact Professional HDV camcorders. Adopting the HDV 1080i format and including features such as 24p progressive recording, 2 channel XLR microphone inputs and a 20x Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens, the V1P offers outstanding functionality.
HVR-Z7P For us the Z7P is the best value for money, handheld HDV video camera on the market. With an interchangeable lens system, a Zeiss 12x HD Lens as standard, a 1/3-inch, 3 CMOS sensor system, the step up to the Z7P allows for superior image control, quality and colour.
As well as native progressive recording, the Z7P comes with Sony’s MRC1 recording unit as standard. The camera-mounted unit allows for direct, on button sync recording to a compact flash card in the HDV/DVCAM & DV formats. Non-linear workflow is a breeze with the unit, which also allows for synchronous master back up to tape. Couple that with the supplied ECM-XM1 microphone offers professional quality sound meaning that this camera is good to go, straight out of the box! PMW-EX3 The PMW-EX3 truly offers features way beyond it’s price tag, this camera provides the perfect tool for low cost studio and ENG work, with all the benefits of the file based workflow. Born from the HD & XDCAM factory, this is the first in what will be a long line of solid-state memory recorders. Truly tapeless, this camera utilises SxS ExpressCards, recording up to 70 minutes of footage onto a 16GB card, which slip simply and painlessly into and Express Card slot on the side of a MAC or PC laptop. Sony’s Exmor CMOS censors provide reduced noise, heat and power consumption, all the while the 3 ½ inch 2.2 mega pixel, 1920 x 1080 sensors are capable capturing full 1920 X 1080 HD progressive and interlaced switchable signals.
All of these Sony cameras are available as for demonstration, so why not pop in and have a test drive of of a top-of-line HDV camera. The allowance gives a “one off tax deduction” equal to 30% of the capital cost of eligible equipment and is in addition to the normal depreciation that can be claimed. Eligible equipment is loosely defined as new tangible assets purchased for use in Australia for which a depreciation deduction is allowable. The key points are:
