Illustrator — Essentials

Illustrator CS6This course runs from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Monday 16th & Tuesday 17th May.

In this 2-day course, participants will: explore the Illustrator environment, magnify and navigate a document, and use Adobe Help.

They will create and save a document, draw basic shapes, manipulate basic shapes to make complex shapes, and export an illustration. They’ll set fill and stroke colours for shapes, set basic stroke options, and use the Eyedropper tool to sample colours. Embed raster images in an Illustrator document for the purpose of tracing them, draw shapes and paths with the Pencil and Pen tools, and select and edit paths. They will use text tools to insert text into illustrations, manipulate text, and convert type to outlined shapes.

They will create layers and organise them in the Layers panel, assign objects to layers, rename layers, duplicate layers, and delete layers. They’ll open, import, and export swatch libraries, create and adjust gradients, and adjust transparency for items. They will also flow type through linked type containers, wrap text around items, set tabs, insert special characters, use character and paragraph styles, check spelling, find and replace text in a document, and replace fonts in a document.

InDesign — Essentials

InDesign CS6This course runs from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Monday 23rd & Tuesday 24th May.

This is the first in our InDesign course series.

It provides instruction on how to create professional-looking documents for both print & web download.

In this 2-day course, participants will: create documents and document presets; create and place text; place graphics and other InDesign pages; and work with colour swatches. They will explore position elements precisely by using guides and the Control panel; and use master pages.

They’ll thread text between text frames, add jump lines, and use columns in text frames; use the Paragraph Formatting controls; use Find/Change to replace formatting; and create and edit paragraph and character styles. They’ll position text in text frames and format frame edges; place Photoshop images in documents, set text wrap, modify graphics, and nest frames; group objects and manipulate objects within a group; and create layers and assign objects to them. They’ll print documents, create print presets, and export documents to PDF; and prepare documents for commercial printing. They’ll create and edit vector paths; create and edit clipping paths; and wrap type on a path. They’ll also manually resize type; use Quick Apply; create nested styles and GREP styles; create path-based text wraps and convert type to outlines; and precisely control leading, hyphenation, justification, and horizontal spacing. They will create, modify, and format tables; import Microsoft Word documents and map Word styles to InDesign styles; add headers and footers to tables; merge table cells; add editorial notes; and create table styles.

Adobe® InDesign CC will be used in class. It is much less applicable to earlier versions of the software.

WAPF Judges seminar

WAPF-JudgingThis course runs from 1:30pm to 4:30pm on Saturday 14th May, Saturday 28th May & Saturday 11th June.

Attention would-be judges. The WAPF has organised a series of judging courses aimed at expanding the pool of judges available for club judging.

The number of courses will depend upon demand, and there are some prerequisites for entry.

Each course is approx 9 hrs of in-class instruction (3 sessions of 3-hours each) plus shared homework with 2 or 3 other attendees. There is a limit of 12 per class, so get your enrolments in quickly. An afternoon course will be offered if the morning one gets close to full.

There is a provision for 2 members per club to be subsidised. Check with your club secretary to see if this applies to you.

This is the first in our Photoshop course series. It provides instruction on how to create professional-looking images for both print & the Web.

 

After completing this 2-day course, participants will be able to:

Enhance and retouch images
·      straighten horizontals or verticals and correct perspective convergence

Edit images non-destructively

Managing Files in a Production Workflow
·      import, Export, and Organise Files
·      use the Crop tool
·      determine an image’s resolution and dimensions
·      resize images with and without resampling
·      save Images for the Web
·      save Images for Print
·      format Images for Other Programs
·      print single and multiple images on a page or export them to a PDF file intended for printing.

CaptureONE 9: The Not Quite Basics

This 3-hour seminar is for users new to CaptureONE 9 or users needing a refresher.

The ‘Not Quite Basic’ course is a detailed introduction that will enable you to get started with CaptureONE straight away. We’ll start in the Library Tool Tab then move on to Tethered Capture Setup and Importing.  We will then cover basic images adjustments – how to customise your image and fine-tune your personal workflow. Lastly, we discuss the variety of output options to create your final TIFF and JPEG images.
